Auriga was released by Players on the Commodore 16 in 1986. It was created by Keith "Howlin MAD" Harvey and produced by Richard Paul Jones.
Auriga on the Commodore 16 is a space shoot'em up. Pretty much like the old Space Invaders, although the enemies can enter the screen at different places and move differently. One thing about this game that my be worth mentioning is that you could have 2 players. Although you had to take it in turns to play. So whether it's a bonus I don't know, because you could just take it in turns on one player mode, as you had to enter your name on the highscore table at the end anyway.
The basic story of the game is that you are a cadet pilot for the new space fighter squadron. You have to battle through 16 different systems to prove your worth and become a fighter pilot. It's a simple concept you shoot and destroy all the enemies, avoid the enemy fire and avoid being hit by them.

Journey through the Uncharted Systems and do battle with the Myriad of enemies found within. If you succeed in keeping you AURIGA class ship intact to the very end, you will be able to join the Ranks of Starfleet. Do not worry if your Fighter's fail to survive the onslaught, you will be withdrawn from the test to try again later. There are 16 Systems to enter before you can become a Fighter Pilot. Once this goal has been reached you will be tested further."

So... Auriga is a good little game, I used to love it when I was a kid. The graphics are fairly good, although the amount of flashing visuals, it's too much. The sounds are good and the music on the title screen is nice for a 16k game. The gameplay is good, it can keep you entertained for an hour. The controls... are the controls - left, right, and fire, they do the job. Overall, nothing fantastic and nothing bad. A tidy little game.
Cheat Codes for Auriga
Cheat codes have to be entered into the Monitor. To access the Monitor simply press "RUN/STOP" and "RESET" on the machine. To restart the game after entering the cheat code type G 1466
